We have a wonderful opportunity to be a choir again, adapted to be safe in this new environment. We have a new conductor, Melissa Brunkan, who not only is a marvelous director, but also has experience working with choirs in the time of COVID. Under her leadership we will be starting the fall term with a hybrid rehearsal plan.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Here is how the hybrid plan works. There will be a small group of choristers who are comfortable meeting in person, (masked, fully vaccinated, and socially distanced), who will rehearse with Melissa and Vicki. The rehearsal will be available to the rest of the choristers by ZOOM, but it will be very different from last year’s version. If you are staying distant, you will sing with the group in your own space as you would during a regular rehearsal. You will hear and see Melissa, hear the piano and hear choir members singing all four parts. The rehearsals will be recorded so you can listen again and again if you want. We plan to demonstrate how this will work at our first meeting on September 20.
WHAT ABOUT VACCINES AND MASKS?
In keeping with UO and CDC guidelines, all WCS members must be completely vaccinated and two weeks past the last shot by their first rehearsal date. Please bring your covid card to the first rehearsal if you have not preregistered.
Singers must be masked. There will be singer’s masks available, made by some of our wonderful members. There will be no charge, but we recommend a donation to the choir in thanks.
WHAT IF I DIDN'T JOIN DURING THE REGISTRATION WINDOW FOR THIS TERM?
Our registration window was August 10-September 20, 2021. Those who joined are now preparing for our next concert, January 9, 2022. Spring term -- in preparation for our concert in May -- will begin January 24, 2022. If you are interested in joining us for Spring term, please check this space in January! Thank you!
